1. What this notice covers
This notice explains cookies, browser storage, pixels and related technologies on our public website. Cookies are small browser files. Local storage remembers information between visits; session storage generally lasts for the current tab session. Pixels and scripts can send information without creating a cookie.
Read this with our Website Privacy Policy. Subscriptions and subscriber-linked email tracking are covered by the Newsletter Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
2. Your choices
Our controls offer:
- Essential only: declines optional media, Analytics storage and Marketing permissions.
- Accept all cookies: grants all three optional categories.
- Settings: lets you choose each category separately.
Optional choices start off. Scrolling or continuing to browse does not turn them on. Reopen Cookie settings to change them at any time.
Essential only does not prevent our anonymous interaction counts, Google's cookieless Consent Mode signals or connections to the directly embedded Google Map and external images. These are explained below.
Subscribing to a newsletter or closing its popup does not change cookie choices. Newsletter permission is governed by the Newsletter Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
3. Essential and preference storage
| Storage | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
Application session cookie and XSRF-TOKEN |
Maintain the session and protect forms | Configured session lifetime; application default 120 minutes, which may renew with activity |
moons.consent.v1 |
Remember media, Analytics and Marketing choices | Choices valid for 180 days; stored entry may remain until replaced or cleared |
moons.newsletter.seen.v1 |
Remember that the newsletter popup appeared | Until cleared or replaced |
moons.motion.paused |
Remember animation preference | Until cleared or replaced |
moons.accessibility.v1 |
Remember larger text, contrast and other display choices | Until cleared or replaced |
moons.tonight.overlay.v1 |
Avoid repeatedly opening the same Tonight event notice automatically | Until cleared or replaced |
Preference entries do not contain a subscriber email address. Some storage may fall back to session storage where persistent storage is unavailable. The newsletter popup entry is not a subscription record; those records are covered by the Newsletter Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
4. Anonymous interaction counts
We count selected button, link and content interactions without an analytics cookie or visitor identifier connecting your separate clicks.
Records contain the selected element or published content, its page, the action, date and time, and a random identifier for the individual interaction to prevent duplicate counting. They exclude names, email addresses, IP addresses, browser details, location, referring websites and form contents.
These records support overall usage totals and are scheduled for deletion after 90 days. Essential only does not disable them.
5. Analytics and Google Consent Mode
Our own detailed analytics starts with Analytics permission. It includes page and session counts, section views, content and ticket-link clicks, successful form submissions, broad referral categories, general device/browser information, approximate location where available, time zone and recognised campaign labels.
A random key groups activity within the application session; its protected hash is stored in event records. Withdrawal removes the key from the application session. These are pseudonymous records, separate from anonymous interaction counts.
The newsletter-campaign session-storage entry remembers a recognised campaign for the tab session. It identifies the campaign, not the subscriber. Withdrawal stops its use for new local analytics collection but may leave the entry until the session ends or storage is cleared. Subscriber-linked email clicks remain a separate process governed by the Newsletter Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
Google Analytics 4 runs through a Google tag using Consent Mode. The tag loads before optional consent and may send cookieless consent and measurement signals while storage is denied. With Analytics permission it can use cookies to distinguish browsers and sessions. Declining Analytics storage is therefore not a promise that no information reaches Google. Google Consent Mode.
| Google cookie | Purpose | Provider default duration |
|---|---|---|
_ga |
Distinguish browsers/users for measurement | Two years |
_ga_<identifier> |
Maintain measurement session state | Two years |
These are provider defaults; configuration and browser restrictions may change or shorten them. Cookie lifetime differs from retention of collected data. Google's GA4 cookie documentation.
6. Marketing
Marketing permission enables Meta Pixel, which sends page-view and technical information to Meta for advertising measurement and relevant advertising. Meta may connect this with existing browser or account information.
Meta may use _fbp, _fbc where applicable, and other identifiers. Presence and duration depend on implementation, provider settings and browser restrictions. See Meta's Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
Our Marketing choice also updates Google's advertising-storage, advertising-data and personalisation consent signals. Actual advertising features and additional cookies depend on active Google integrations and account settings.
7. External media and maps
Supported embedded players wait for optional media permission or, where offered, permission for a particular provider. moons.provider.session.v1 remembers temporary provider permissions until the tab session ends.
Once allowed, providers may receive technical information and set or read their own cookies under their notices.
Google Maps: the current venue map loads directly from Google and is not blocked by the media setting. Google can receive network and browser information when it loads even if Analytics and Marketing are declined.
External image hosts may receive network information when their images load. Following an external link opens a separate website with its own cookies and controls.
8. Changing or withdrawing permission
Use Cookie settings to change your choices. Withdrawal stops our own consent-based analytics and disables Meta Pixel as applicable. A page reload may be used to stop an already loaded tracking context. Google's tag then uses the updated consent state and can still send the cookieless signals described above.
Withdrawing media removes supported consent-controlled players, but not the directly embedded map.
Withdrawal does not automatically erase previously collected information or all existing cookies and browser entries. Clear cookies and site storage through your browser if required; doing so may reset preferences and show notices again. Choices are generally specific to your browser, device and site origin.
Cookie choices do not change a newsletter subscription. See the Newsletter Terms of Service and Privacy Policy to unsubscribe or request information about subscriber records.
9. Newsletter and email tracking
Newsletter open images and tracked links operate separately from website cookies and can be linked to a subscriber record. Website cookie choices do not disable tracking inside an email or a tracked email redirect.
The Newsletter Terms of Service and Privacy Policy is the primary notice for subscription conditions, email tracking, possible follow-ups, providers, retention, unsubscribe rights and privacy requests.
